  • Nicolet iS50 FT-IR Spectrometer (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA)
Description

Fourier transform infrared spectrometer Nicolet TM iS50 (FTIR)
This instrumentation represents Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) with a built-in diamond ATR crystal for measurements using an attenuated total reflection technique. Measurements can be performed in UV-VIS, IR, NIR, and FAR area (without the need of blowing through the device). The instrument is also able to record Raman spectra without any replacement of the system components. Infrared spectroscopy is widely used in both qualitative and quantitative analysis. At the Department of Food Analysis and Nutrition UCT Prague, this instrument is mostly used for determination of the acid value or authentication of various foodstuffs and food supplements (such as oil, butter, margarine, spices, honey, lecithin, oyster mushroom, milk thistle).

  • Spectrophotometer Cary 60 UV-Vis (Agilent Technologies, USA)

  • Agilent 1200 Series Rapid Resolution LC system  with DAD and FLD detectors (Agilent Technologies, USA)
Description

The liquid chromatography system connected with a diode array detector and a fluorescence detector is mainly used for the analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carotenoids, amino acids and vitamins (groups B, C and E) in a wide range of foods (fruits, vegetables, teas, cereals, food supplements, hemp products…) and beverages.

  • FCPC® A Kromaton (Rousselet Centrifugation)
Description

Fast centrifugal partitioning chromatography FCPC® A Kromaton coupled with peripheral system puriFlash®4250 (Interchim)
This instrumentation consists of a fast centrifugal chromatography (FCPC® A Kromaton) with a rotor volume of 1000 ml and a peripheral system puriFlash®4250 (Interchim), which includes a pump, injection valve, 50 ml injection loop, PDA detector (200 – 600 nm) and fraction collector. The separation is based on the different affinity of the analytes to the two immiscible solvent mixtures, which represent the stationary and mobile phase. The system is suitable for the separation and isolation of various bioactive compounds, such as phenolics, flavonoids, lignans, alkaloids, and many others.

Main benefits of the FCPC® A Kromaton system

• Large amounts of sample mass can be loaded (up to 50 ml)
• No extraction and purification of target molecules needed prior FCPC
• Suitable even for low-concentrated bioactive compounds • Applicable for a broad spectrum of compounds
At the Department of Food Analysis and Nutrition UCT Prague, this instrument is mainly used for the separation and isolation of bioactive compounds from Cannabis sativa L. extracts.

  • Halogen Moisture Analyzer HG63 (Mettler Toledo)
Description

The halogen moisture analyzer is suitable for routine determination of moisture content. It is fast (results obtained within minutes) and efficient, and offers very good repeatability even if a small amount of sample is available. The fast speed and good repeatability of the measurement are achieved by a circular halogen lamp and a gold-plated reflector. The results are obtained with resolution of up to 10 ppm MC. The halogen moisture analyzer is mainly used for the determination of the dry matter in plant material.
